While Traditional dating apps seemingly became a hit overnight in the 2010s, they have also seemingly become a thing of the past overnight.
In recent years, these apps have been plagued more and more with unhappy users complaining of little to no matches, a hookup culture that does not fulfill their needs, and spam which aims to boost engagement on other unrelated platforms.
But these are just some of the common problems with traditional dating apps. Generally, men complain that they barely get matches, and when they do, the matches are unresponsive.
While this is true, considering that the data shows that men have a mere 0.6% match rate on these apps, women also have their fair share of complaints.
In this article, we will dive deep into the fall from grace that these once revolutionary apps have had in recent years, and talk about the future of the online dating industry.
We don't Always need a Quick Fix
Traditional dating apps started as a great way for people to meet online, establish a rapport, and then meet in person for a date.
This slowly turned into a way for people to just hookup for one night and never speak again. While this is certainly a good thing for some people, there are many others, men and women alike, who would actually prefer to establish a true, meaningful relationship with someone and ideally build a family.
However, traditional dating apps have only leaned into hookup culture instead of try to fix the problem. With things like "Speed Dating" and loose matching parameters based on superficial interests, it's clear that these apps would prefer to cater to a hookup culture.
And this makes sense from a business standpoint. This strategy keeps users coming back and using the app. If they actually build a dating platform the way it should be, they may think they will have less users overall.
All this strategy has done is ruin the credibility of these traditional dating apps, and leave most users longing for a more rewarding experience.
People Prefer LinkedIn for Dating??
Amidst the fall from grace for traditional dating apps, it seems like they've found new competition in the form of a platform generally used to find jobs.
Yes, according to a recent article from USA Today, the platform LinkedIn is actually preferred by most people looking to find their potential partners online.
The article mentions other networking sites are also preferred over traditional dating apps:
"LinkedIn and other networking platforms are a preferred way to set up dates over popular dating apps like Bumble, according to a recent survey of singles conducted by DatingNews.com."
The article mentions that this survey found that 61% of people aged 35-40 preferred LinkedIn-like apps over traditional dating apps, while 49% of participants aged 25-34 preferred it as well.
Although this is just one survey, it shows that people of all ages are seriously starting to move away from traditional dating apps and trying to find other methods to meet their dates online.
Traditional Dating Apps are Missing the Point
Traditional dating apps have failed to understand their users, as well as the dynamic between men and women.
It is obvious that these apps are tone-deaf to the differences between how men and women perceive value in each other, and how they differ in approaching romantic relationships.
This is especially evident in the case of Bumble, a dating app that focused on empowering women by... letting them make the first move??
Well, apparently most women didn't feel too empowered. In fact, a recent article published by the NY Times details how Bumble has recently changed that feature because of complaints from most women using the app:
"Over the years, Bumble received feedback from women who found that making the first move was 'a lot of work' or “a burden.”
What's really funny is that while the CEO of Bumble thought she was empowering women, most men only tried the app because it took the pressure off them from making the first move!
This backwards-thinking on how online dating should be, and how the dynamic between men and women should be, is the reason why most users are fed up with traditional dating apps.
So, what does the future look like for online dating?
FrostyWave: The Future of Online Dating
At FrostyWave, we have created a platform that caters to the natural dynamic between men and women, in the context of dating.
According to evolutionary biology, women are attracted to men who are competent and have the ability to generate resources. Men, in turn, seek women who are physically attractive and youthful.
Both men and women fill out a questionnaire to reinforce or establish these, and other qualities they prioritize in a partner. Our AI will then use this information to find users quality matches with the highest chance of success.
Men's profiles on FrostyWave are much more than just photos. Men are encouraged to highlight everything they are proud of, whether it's their job, certificates, received recognitions, or sports achievements.
Anything they have pride in tells a lot about their personality, priorities, and abilities. All of these are important qualities for women when looking for a long-term partner.
We have replaced swiping left and right with an accurate AI-based matching algorithm to further ensure the best matches for users.
Right from the beginning, when we match our users, we are giving them the highest chance of success.
If you like the sound of that, you can sign up for FrostyWave now!
