Artificial Intelligence has become one of the largest markets in the world in the past decade.
While it's been used as a tool in various industries for awhile, recent breakthroughs like ChatGPT have catapulted the term "AI" into everyday discussion amongst companies and consumers alike.
At FrostyWave, we use AI in a way that most emulates dating in real-life scenarios.
Users on FrostyWave fill out a questionnaire which teaches our AI about the qualities they seek in a life partner.
Our AI will then rank these qualities and look for partners accordingly, starting with the user’s most coveted quality.
The qualities on the questionnaire are not simple preferences or like interests, they are a thorough ranking of priorities ranging from future aspirations, compatibility, and family values, to how high you prioritize physical appearance.
Additionally, we input extensive amounts of real-world research and data regarding both men and women’s needs, as well as what factors contribute to successful relationships into our AI algorithm in order to optimize for matches with the highest chance of success.
This ensures the most thorough, high-potential matches out of any dating app on the market today.
This is how AI should be used in the world of online dating.
And because of this proper utilization of AI, there is indeed no swiping on FrostyWave like there is on traditional dating apps. Swiping is a user-driven process which is based on basic information like photos and appearance.
Our AI already analyzes these data points and more, so users can say goodbye to time-consuming, mindless swiping.
There are other dating apps that are also using AI as part of their design now.
But are they using it in a way that actually benefits the users on their apps? Are they actually using the full potential of AI to help users find life partners?
Or are they using it as a simple gimmick?
Or a way to "match with someone who looks like your ex"?
In this article, we'll explore how AI has grown as an industry over the years, and how traditional dating apps are now using AI (badly).
Traditional Dating Apps' use of AI (Poorly)
Ahh, yes.
Traditional dating apps, who have used AI-driven algorithms since their inception, are now using AI as an even larger part of their design.
According to Statista, 39% of online daters worldwide used apps with AI-powered features in 2022, and this number is expected to continue increasing.
So with most traditional dating apps now using AI, let's take a look at how exactly some of them are utilizing it:
Tinder
Tinder is using AI as part of their "Smart Photos" tool, which rearranges the photos on a user's profile based on which ones are most likely to be swiped right on.
Great... more photo-driven design where looks are the only thing that matters to people, when clearly they don't. Especially in the case of women. We wrote about this here at FrostyWave, in an article titled "Why Women Care Less about your Looks than you Think". You can check out that article and the related research here.
Badoo
Badoo uses AI as part of a facial recognition technology that lets users... find matches that look like celebrities, or even their exes???
I'm honestly not sure which would be worse... Whose idea was this?
Let's move on from that one...
Bumble
Bumble has announced that they plan to use AI as part of their upcoming "Concierge" feature, where every user has their own AI "concierge" who chats with other concierge to find users a match.
Yes, that's right. You're supposed to sit back and let your AI date for you. I suppose I have to, at some point, tell my AI all my secrets and insecurities? Is this a dating app or an armchair psychologist app?
"I found another user who hates themselves as much as you do. Now, commence the chat."
Congratulations everyone, Bumble has officially ruined online dating!
How Dating Apps COULD be using AI to Find your Life Partner
AI, in its best use, should be a way to enhance our lives. It shouldn't be something that makes us worse off in the long run.
This is also true for online dating.
The potential for AI in online dating is great, and should be used as a way to overcome the biggest problem of online dating: Being online, and not in person!
There are ways which AI can bridge the gap between online dating and real-life dating scenarios, where users can be given the absolute best possible matches with the highest chance of success.
This means identifying users who would be the most compatible with each other in every way, from minor preferences to larger ideals like future aspirations and family values.
This is exactly how we use AI at FrostyWave.
Not as a weird gimmick to match with someone who looks like your ex, or an ominous program that takes away your actual ability to date and connect with people.
Rather, we use it to enhance online dating and help users find their ideal life partner.
If that interests you, then sign up to FrostyWave and begin your journey to finding the one for you!
